Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 August 2026

Marriage In Nigeria is a wedding marketplace and relationship information platform. Through MarriageInNigeria.ng, people planning weddings and other celebrations can discover wedding professionals, post requests and receive responses from suitable vendors. Wedding vendors can create business profiles, display their services and access relevant client requests.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store and protect personal data when you visit or use MarriageInNigeria.ng, its vendor portal, dashboards, forms, account pages, communications and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

It also explains what information may become public, when contact details may be shared with wedding vendors, and the rights available to you under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and other applicable data-protection laws.

Please read this Policy before using the Service. By using the Service or submitting information to us, you acknowledge that you have read this Policy. Where we rely on consent, we will request it separately and you may withdraw it as described below.

1. Who We Are

MarriageInNigeria.ng is a product operated by Nicholas Idoko Technologies Limited (RC 1895336).

For the purposes of applicable data-protection law, Nicholas Idoko Technologies Limited is the data controller responsible for personal data processed through the Service, except where another organisation independently determines how it will use information it receives from us.

2. Scope of This Policy

This Policy applies to:

  • visitors to MarriageInNigeria.ng and its blog;
  • people who create an account or use a dashboard;
  • couples, planners or other authorised event contacts who post a wedding or event request;
  • wedding vendors and their authorised representatives;
  • people who contact us by email, telephone, WhatsApp, social media, contact form or another support channel;
  • people who subscribe to our emails, WhatsApp updates or other communications; and
  • people whose publicly available business information is used to identify or describe a wedding vendor.

This Policy does not control how independent wedding vendors, payment providers, social networks or other third parties use personal data under their own privacy policies.

3. Important Notice for People Posting Wedding Requests

Marriage In Nigeria works by helping suitable vendors discover a request and contact the person who posted it. You should understand the following before submitting a request.

Information that may be publicly visible

A public or marketplace request page may display information such as:

  • the services required;
  • event type;
  • event state, city or local government area;
  • event date or date flexibility;
  • estimated guest count;
  • venue information or whether venue suggestions are needed;
  • total budget and any budget provided for individual services;
  • vendor response deadline;
  • the description of what is required;
  • requester or display name;
  • preferred first-contact method and best time to contact; and
  • the date the request was posted.

Public request information may be visible to visitors, shared through our communication channels and indexed by search engines. We may shorten or mask a requester’s name, but information you include inside a request description could still identify you.

Information restricted to authorised vendor access

Your email address, verified WhatsApp number and request attachments are not intended to appear in the public request summary. They may, however, be made available to logged-in vendors who are eligible to access the request under their plan or who intentionally unlock that request.

For Standard Priority, Premium Priority or similar promotional options, we may also send the request to eligible vendors through email, WhatsApp or other stated channels. Those vendors may then contact you directly using the method you selected.

What you should not submit

Do not place a home address, card details, bank details, account passwords, government identification number, medical information, private relationship information or other unnecessary sensitive data in a public request description or attachment.

If you post a request for another person, you confirm that you are authorised to provide the information and to permit suitable vendors to contact the named event contact.

4. Personal Data We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you use the Service.

A. Account and identity information

This may include:

  • first and last name;
  • username or display name;
  • email address;
  • telephone or WhatsApp number;
  • login credentials in protected form;
  • account type, status and preferences;
  • email or phone-verification records; and
  • records of account access, security checks and password resets.

B. Wedding and event request information

This may include:

  • services needed;
  • event type, location, date and date flexibility;
  • guest count and venue information;
  • total and service-specific budgets;
  • response deadline;
  • event preferences, instructions and free-text descriptions;
  • uploaded inspiration images, documents or other attachments;
  • requester name and contact details;
  • preferred contact method and best contact time;
  • how you heard about Marriage In Nigeria;
  • selected request plan; and
  • vendor access, response, report and review information.

C. Vendor and business information

This may include:

  • business name and the name of a contact person;
  • business email, telephone and WhatsApp details;
  • address, service areas, city, state and other location information;
  • service categories, business description, packages and pricing information;
  • website and social-media links;
  • photographs, videos, logos, portfolios and other media;
  • business registration, verification or supporting information, where requested;
  • profile badge, subscription, lead-access and account status;
  • reviews, ratings, reports and responses;
  • profile views, contact-button taps and request-access activity; and
  • communications with couples, where voluntarily provided to us for support, review or dispute handling.

Some vendor information is intended for publication. Vendor profiles may be visible to the public and indexed by search engines.

D. Payment and transaction information

When you buy a plan, fund a wallet, pay for priority placement, unlock a request or purchase another paid service, we may collect:

  • billing name and contact information;
  • product, plan or service purchased;
  • amount, currency, date and payment status;
  • transaction reference and payment-channel summary;
  • wallet balance and transaction history; and
  • refund, failed-payment or dispute information.

Card or bank-payment credentials are generally entered directly with an independent payment processor. We do not require you to send full card details to us by email, WhatsApp or a platform form.

E. Communications and user content

We may process messages, support requests, enquiries, complaints, reports, reviews, survey responses, testimonials and other content you send to us.

If a vendor and requester communicate outside the Service—for example, through WhatsApp or a telephone call—we do not ordinarily receive the content of that communication unless one of the parties sends it to us.

F. Technical, usage and device information

When you use the Service, we may automatically collect:

  • IP address;
  • browser, device and operating-system information;
  • approximate location derived from an IP address;
  • pages viewed, links or buttons selected and time spent on the Service;
  • referral source and advertising attribution;
  • login, error, security and activity logs;
  • cookie identifiers and preference information; and
  • performance and analytics information.

G. Blog comments and uploaded media

If comments are enabled and you leave a comment, we may collect the information entered in the comment form, your IP address and browser information to support moderation and spam prevention. A hashed version of your email address may be sent to Gravatar to check whether you use that service. After approval, your profile image may be visible with your comment.

Images may contain embedded location or device metadata. Anyone who can access a publicly displayed image may be able to extract that metadata. Remove unnecessary metadata before uploading an image.

5. How We Obtain Personal Data

We may obtain personal data:

  • directly from you when you create an account, submit a request, register a vendor business, make a payment or contact us;
  • from another authorised person, such as a wedding planner, business representative or team member;
  • automatically through cookies, server logs and similar technologies;
  • from vendors or requesters who submit reviews, reports or support evidence;
  • from payment, verification, communication, analytics or security service providers; and
  • from publicly available business sources, including business websites, Google Business Profiles, social-media pages and public directories.

Where we identify a vendor through public business information, we may use limited professional information to contact the business, invite it to claim or complete a listing, or maintain an accurate directory. A vendor may ask us to correct or remove inaccurate information by contacting us.

6. How and Why We Use Personal Data

We may use personal data to:

  • create, verify and manage user accounts;
  • publish and maintain wedding vendor profiles;
  • receive, review, approve, publish and distribute wedding or event requests;
  • match requests with vendors using service type, location, date, plan and other relevant criteria;
  • allow eligible vendors to access request contact details and attachments;
  • enable direct contact between requesters and wedding vendors;
  • process purchases, wallet transactions, plan access, renewals and refunds;
  • send verification codes, receipts, account alerts, request notifications and other service messages;
  • provide support and respond to questions, reports, complaints or disputes;
  • moderate content, detect fake requests, reduce spam, enforce our rules and protect users;
  • measure profile views, contact taps, request access and marketplace performance;
  • improve, test, secure and personalise the Service;
  • understand how users discovered the Service and measure marketing performance;
  • send newsletters, promotions, educational materials and marketplace updates where permitted;
  • establish, exercise or defend legal claims;
  • comply with legal, regulatory, accounting and tax obligations; and
  • protect our rights, users, systems and the public.

7. Lawful Bases for Processing

Depending on the activity and applicable law, we rely on one or more of the following lawful bases:

Contract or steps taken at your request

We process information needed to create and administer an account, publish a vendor profile, post and distribute a request, provide vendor access, process a purchase and deliver other services you request.

Consent

We rely on consent where you instruct us to share your contact details with suitable vendors, submit optional information or sensitive content, accept non-essential cookies, subscribe to certain marketing communications, or where consent is otherwise legally required.

You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal will not affect processing that was lawful before the withdrawal, and it may prevent us from continuing a feature that depends on the information.

Legitimate interests

We may process information where reasonably necessary to operate and improve a relevant, safe and sustainable wedding marketplace. These interests include preventing fraud and spam, securing accounts, providing support, maintaining accurate business listings, measuring performance, promoting related services and protecting legal rights. We consider the likely effect on your privacy before relying on this basis.

Legal obligation

We process information where necessary to comply with applicable law, lawful requests, accounting requirements, tax obligations, regulatory duties or court orders.

Other lawful grounds

Where applicable, we may process information to protect vital interests, perform a task in the public interest, or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

8. Sensitive Personal Data

We do not need highly sensitive personal information for ordinary marketplace use. However, an event type, request description, review or attachment could reveal religious beliefs, cultural practices, health information or other sensitive matters.

Only provide sensitive information when it is genuinely necessary. Where the law requires it, we will rely on your explicit consent or another lawful condition to process sensitive personal data. We may remove unnecessary sensitive information from a public listing or ask you to resubmit a request without it.

9. Public Information and Search Engines

The following information may be public, depending on the feature used:

  • vendor business profiles and their contact buttons;
  • vendor service areas, descriptions, packages, portfolio media, website or social links;
  • reviews, ratings and vendor responses;
  • wedding or event request summaries described in Section 3;
  • approved blog comments and associated profile images; and
  • testimonials or success stories published with permission.

Public information may be copied, shared or indexed by third-party search engines. Removing content from MarriageInNigeria.ng does not always remove copies already held by search engines, social networks or other websites. You may need to contact those third parties separately.

10. When We Share Personal Data

We may disclose personal data to the following categories of recipients.

A. Wedding vendors

We may share request contact details and attachments with vendors who are eligible to access the request under their active plan or who unlock that request. For priority options, we may proactively notify or send request information to matching vendors.

Vendors receive this information to respond to the specific request. They must not resell it, publish it, use it for unrelated marketing or add the requester to a marketing list without separate permission.

After receiving information, a vendor may act as an independent data controller responsible for its own use and security of that information. Tell a vendor to stop contacting you if you no longer wish to hear from it, and report suspected misuse to us.

B. Requesters and visitors

Vendor business profiles and the business contact details selected for publication may be shown to requesters and other visitors so they can assess and contact a vendor.

C. Service providers

We may use carefully selected providers that support:

  • website hosting, databases, backups and cloud infrastructure;
  • payment processing and fraud prevention;
  • email, WhatsApp, SMS and other communications;
  • analytics, advertising measurement and cookie management;
  • account verification, security and spam detection;
  • customer support, document storage and business operations; and
  • professional legal, accounting, audit or compliance services.

These providers may process only the information reasonably required to perform their services and are subject to their contractual and legal responsibilities.

D. Legal, safety and business disclosures

We may disclose information:

  • when required by law, regulation, court order or a valid request from an authorised public body;
  • to investigate fraud, threats, misuse, security incidents or violations of our terms;
  • to protect the rights, safety and property of Marriage In Nigeria, our users or others;
  • to obtain professional advice or manage a legal claim; or
  • in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, restructuring or transfer of all or part of the business, subject to appropriate safeguards.

We do not sell personal data to unrelated data brokers. Vendors may pay for a plan or request-access feature that permits them to view contact details for a genuine marketplace opportunity. That payment is for access to the marketplace service and is not permission to use the information for unrelated purposes.

11. Payments

Payments may be processed by an independent payment provider. That provider processes payment information under its own privacy policy and security obligations.

We generally receive confirmation information such as the payer’s name or contact details, transaction reference, amount, date, channel and payment status. We use this information to provide the purchased service, maintain transaction records, issue receipts, prevent fraud and resolve payment disputes.

Never send us your full card number, PIN, online-banking password or one-time bank authentication code through email, WhatsApp, a support message or a wedding request.

12. Email, WhatsApp, SMS and Direct Vendor Contact

We may send:

  • verification codes and security alerts;
  • account, payment and service messages;
  • wedding request and vendor-match notifications;
  • request follow-ups and feedback invitations;
  • educational resources requested or included with a service; and
  • newsletters, offers and marketplace updates where permitted.

You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in the message and may request that we stop optional WhatsApp or SMS marketing. Vendors can also manage available request-notification preferences within their account.

Opting out of marketing does not stop essential account, security, transaction or service messages. It also does not automatically stop an independent vendor who already received your details. You should tell that vendor to stop, block the contact where necessary and report misuse to us.

13. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We and our service providers may use cookies, pixels, local storage and similar technologies for:

  • essential site operation, login and security;
  • remembering preferences and maintaining sessions;
  • preventing fraud and spam;
  • measuring traffic, performance and feature use;
  • understanding referral sources and advertising results; and
  • personalising content or marketing where permitted.

Where required, non-essential cookies are used only after you make a choice through our cookie notice or settings. You can also control cookies through your browser. Blocking essential cookies may prevent login, payment or other features from working correctly.

Embedded videos, maps, social posts or other third-party content may behave as though you visited the third party directly. Those third parties may collect information, place cookies or track your interaction according to their own policies, especially if you are logged in to their services.

14. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, loss or destruction. These safeguards may include access controls, protected credentials, account verification, logging, backups, security monitoring, staff or contractor confidentiality requirements and due diligence on service providers.

No website, database, internet transmission or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for using a strong, unique password, protecting verification codes and keeping your account contact details current.

If a personal-data breach occurs, we will investigate and take appropriate remedial action. We will notify affected users and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission where notification is required by law.

15. How Long We Keep Personal Data

We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing the Service, maintaining marketplace integrity, resolving disputes and meeting legal obligations.

In general:

  • account information is kept while the account is active and for a reasonable period after closure where needed for security, dispute resolution or legal compliance;
  • vendor profiles may remain published for the period covered by the selected listing arrangement, including an active lifetime listing, unless removed under our terms or at the vendor’s valid request;
  • request summaries may remain visible as active or archived marketplace records after a response deadline or event date, but may later be removed, anonymised or aggregated;
  • locked contact details, attachments, request-access records and related logs are retained only while reasonably needed to operate the service, prevent misuse, support users and resolve disputes;
  • transaction, accounting and tax records are retained for the period required by applicable law;
  • support, complaint and legal records are retained while the matter is active and for a reasonable period afterwards;
  • marketing records are retained until you opt out or they are no longer needed, while limited suppression records may be kept to honour an opt-out; and
  • technical logs and backups are deleted or overwritten according to our operational and security cycles, unless they must be preserved for an investigation or legal claim.

When personal data is no longer required, we will delete it, anonymise it or securely isolate it until deletion is possible. Data may remain temporarily in backups or be retained longer where law, fraud prevention, a dispute, a legal hold or the defence of a claim requires it.

16. International Data Transfers

Some service providers may store or process information outside Nigeria. When personal data is transferred internationally, we will take steps required by applicable law to ensure an adequate level of protection or rely on an approved transfer mechanism, contractual safeguard, consent or another lawful basis permitted under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

17. Automated Matching, Ranking and Analytics

We may use automated rules to:

  • match requests with vendors based on service, location, date, plan and other relevant factors;
  • determine which requests or profiles are displayed in particular sections;
  • apply marketplace placement associated with a selected plan;
  • detect suspicious, duplicate or potentially fraudulent activity; and
  • generate performance analytics such as views and contact-button taps.

These tools support marketplace operation. They do not decide whether a couple must hire a vendor or whether a vendor must accept a client. Users remain responsible for their own enquiries, due diligence, agreements and payments.

Where applicable law gives you a right concerning a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal or similarly significant effects, you may request information, express your view, contest the decision and ask for human review.

18. Your Data-Protection Rights

Subject to applicable law and any valid exception, you may have the right to:

  • be informed about how your personal data is used;
  • request access to your personal data and obtain a copy;
  • request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • request deletion of personal data that is no longer required;
  • withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing;
  • request restriction of processing in appropriate circumstances;
  • receive data you provided in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format where portability applies;
  • request safeguards concerning qualifying solely automated decisions; and
  • complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

To exercise a right, email office@marriageinnigeria.ng with the subject “Privacy Request.” Describe your request and identify the account, vendor profile or wedding request concerned.

We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and protect other people’s data. We may refuse or limit a request where permitted by law—for example, where retention is required for legal obligations, fraud prevention, another person’s rights or the establishment, exercise or defence of a legal claim. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.

You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission at https://ndpc.gov.ng. We would appreciate the opportunity to address your concern directly first, but you are not required to contact us before exercising your right to complain.

19. Children

The Service is intended for people aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly permit a child under 18 to create an account, post a request or register as a vendor.

Vendor portfolio images or event attachments may incidentally include children. The person uploading such media is responsible for having the authority and permissions needed to provide and publish it. If you believe a child’s personal data has been submitted without appropriate authority, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

20. Third-Party Websites and Services

The Service may link to vendor websites, payment pages, social networks, messaging services, embedded content or other third-party services. We do not control the privacy, security or content of independent third parties. Review their privacy policies before giving them personal information or making a payment.

Marriage In Nigeria helps users discover and contact one another, but requesters and vendors are responsible for independently assessing each other, agreeing service terms and using safe payment practices.

21. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Policy when our services, technology, providers or legal obligations change. The revised version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how we use personal data, we will provide additional notice where required by law.
